Built with an extremely porous structure, De*Nitrate supports dense colonies of beneficial bacteria that promote anaerobic denitrification, the same biological process used by live rock in reef systems.

When placed in a low-flow environment, aerobic bacteria consume oxygen at the surface of the media, creating oxygen-poor zones deeper inside. These anaerobic conditions allow denitrifying bacteria to convert harmful nitrates into harmless nitrogen gas, helping maintain stable water parameters and preventing algae growth caused by excess nutrients.

Ideal for use in canister filters, box filters, or chemical filtration modules, Seachem De*Nitrate works continuously as long as nitrate levels remain controlled. For best results, very high nitrate levels should be reduced with water changes before introducing the media.
